Dr. Marcus D. King
Dr. Marcus D. King is the Senior Pastor of Johnson Chapel Community Church, located in the beautiful city of Desoto, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. In September of 2008, he received the call to pastor the then 47 member church which was embattled with bankruptcy and declining membership. Within two and half years of prayer, teamwork, and the Lord’s favor, the church cleared bankruptcy, grew to three Sunday services with a membership of over 1800 and counting. The church slogan is “A Central Place for Discipleship” and strives to continue to do its part in fulfilling the Great Commission.
With a passion for discipleship, Pastor King has led Johnson Chapel (also known as JC3) into the streets of Desoto, across the country and the world with outreaches in countries such as The Gambia (West Africa), Montego Bay and Kingston Jamaica where he was able to teach and preach the word of God and English and Reading to students there in the school system. FEDUP (Families Eating Daily Undermining Poverty) is a program started under his leadership to partner with families during economic times from 30 to 90 days to give them groceries, counseling, resume evaluations and writing, clothing, and various other resources in order to help that family or individual to have dignity while growing through their job and financial transitions. There is a long list of outreach activities and activism that has reached the government, schools, impoverished and well to do communities throughout his over 18 years of ministry, and the fruit is still being revealed as it will continue to do so in the future.
A former 8th grade English Teacher, Pastor King has earned a Master of Christian Education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas and a Bachelor of English and Christian Ministry degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and Dallas Baptist University in Dallas Texas. There is no greater joy for him than to teach the word of God with clarity to where even a child can grow and share his straightforward, relevant but practical messages. He is a native of Terrell, Texas but spent most of his childhood in Tyler, Texas. He has authored two devotional books entitled ‘Thirsty Thurdays Vol. 1” and “Thirsty Thursdays Determination” You can listen to him online via his church’s website at jc3online.org live on Sundays and Thursdays or everyday on demand.
